Advice needed on recovery option of a Seagate Rosewood

Post by alwayseagate »

1TB internal 2.5" HDD (non-SSD) from a laptop, made in 01/2018.
Seagate ST1000LM035-1RK172
Laptop just suddenly blacked out and shut off. Will not boot into Windows, says hard drive not found.
HDD is still can be seen in BIOS, and does not make click or laborious noises.
If performing a system diagnostic, says something about HDD operating out of parameters and what not.

Still can connect the HDD via a USB enclosure to another system and with varying degrees of limited access.
*On a Win7 system the drive shows up with a gold padlock and key in it on the icon, and won't let me access the drive (system freezes but will unfreeze when I unplug the USB enclosure)
*On a Win10 system, no padlock on the drive icon and I can actually go in and see the first tier folders - user/windows/program files/etc but that's all the access there is, if I try to go into say the user folder it would forever be loading and no content ever shows, but the Win10 system does not freeze. If trying to access the user folder via command prompt, it would say something like folder not accessible.
*On a Win11 system, there is a gray padlock on the drive icon but the padlock is unlocked, and similar to a Win7 system, won't let me access the drive and freezes, and unfreezes when USB is unplugged.

While connected to Win10 and using a recovery software, it detects the drive, but also shows it with a locked padlock icon, and won't let me access it, and freezes the software, and of course, unfreezes when the USB is unplugged.

Not sure what the padlock on the drive icon is, laptop never had bitlocker used.

So the most access I have is plugging it to a Win10 system and be able to see the first tier folders. All systems would show the size of the drive and how much space there is on it as if normal.

I was told that this is a Seagate Rosewood, apparently infamous. Suspecting that this is a physical issue on part of the HDD itself, any advice on possible DIY fix? Or any suggestions on what professional route to take. Stopped by Best Buy/Geek Squad today, they said they do recovery on accidental delete, formatted drive, or drive clicking, those three levels, and a one to two months wait. Not an encouraging start.

Avoid computer shops at all costs, especially box stores.

It sounds to me that there could be a weak head. Even if not, I think you have done all that you can with DIY without it totally dying.

You can send to us at Recovery Force or use another data recovery listed at www.datarecoveryprofessionals.org.
