We certainly don’t post about every recovery we do, but we do like to share cases that fall outside the ordinary. This time we had a flash back to the 90’s.
Even when older hard drive issues are less complicated, they become complicated because of how they communicate. Our newer equipment is designed to handle drives that communicate in a much faster UDMA transfer mode, while this particular drive model pre-existed such speeds. Fortunately, this drive is new enough to work with our tools slowest read methods and we were able to fully recover the data from the drive, after a few relative minor repairs to the drive. It also helps that we are have been around long enough to remember doing data recovery on these drives when they were more commonly found in systems.
